Woopra | Real Time Analytics

ShareTweet

What can Woopra Real Time Analytics do for me, you might ask? If you are a blogger or major content provider, or even tracking a promotion on an ecommerce website, it can help you make real time adjustments or help build an ongoing strategy. I say this because there are plenty of good analytics solutions available.  We utilize Google Analytics on every website and blog that we build for our clients. But Woopra is REAL TIME and can assist you in understanding traffic metrics for blog posts, content or promotions the same day that the content goes up! It also allows you produce custom reports and take a deep look at analytics as well. And Woopra, which is in beta, is free!

Woopra Real Time Analytics

How Do I Get Woopra?
The woopra.com website accepts signups, but they randomly approve new accounts over time as resources become available to them. It took me a couple of months to get approved.

Woopra Beta Testers are limited to:

  • Sites with less than 10,000 pageviews per day.
  • Two websites per member.
  • There are currently 65,000 beta testers

When Woopra comes out of beta, there will be a paid version and a free version. There will also be no waiting for accounts. Woopra has not set an exact date for this.

Installing Woopra Code
You must have Woopra Javascript code running on your website, similar to Google Analytics. You install the code with a Woopra Plugin or manually adding the Woopra JavaScript to your site. There are plugins available for Joomla, Wordpress, VBulletin, Drupal, Magento and more.

Viewing Analytical Data
Woopra has a desktop client application for viewing the real time analytic data and graphs. It is available for Mac, Linux and Windows. This is a deep and extensive client, which has the richest and most interactive data set for analysis. There is also a basic viewer which is browser enabled on the Woopra website for members. I actually prefer using the web version for quick updates throughout the day. I use the desktop version deeper analysis and decision making.

Data Points Available - Desktop Client
First, Woopra shows you who is visiting your website live, in real time. It shows each visitor as a pin on a world map.  It shows how many times they have visited, total actions (page views), total time on site, average time per visit. And will show the exact pages visited on the current session for each live visitor.  It shows browers, platforms, countries, referrers and complete page view history for each user over time. It even includes and online chat client that allows you to chat with anyone who is connected live to your website!

The amount of referrer and content visited data is staggering. It was important for me to see search engine data, but also the amount of traffic in detail from social media platforms, social bookmarks, backlinks, feed readers and direct. I particular like looking at this data in real-time after a blog post to see where I am getting traffic from pertaining to a specific topic. Also, viewing keyword and key phrase data in real time allow me to get better at writing good SEO content.

The Dashboard allows you to see an overview of live visitors, visits, pages, searches, keywords, geography points, and referrers all on one screen view.

A Real Case Use of Woopra
I recently posted a Top 10 Joomla Plug-ins and Add-ons blog on this website. One of the items on my list was the sh404SEF component for search engine friendly URLs. After I posted and promoted the blog, I was viewing analytical data throughout the day. I also read a tweet that said the sh404SEF component project development had been taken over by Anything Digital so I re-tweeted and visited the link to a blog about the announcement. I posted one of the first comments on the announcement blog and embedded a link to my "Top 10" blog post. I was watching in real time as my website lit up with visitors that were clicking on my "Top 10" link in the comment. It was responsible for 80+ visitors that day. And as I look at the same metric over time, it helps me build a strategy for blog posts and the promotion of those blogs in comments throughout other blog sites.

I use Woopra virtually everyday to measure the effectiveness of my own dynamic content. I am anxious to deploy it on an a client site with very active ecommerce to track regional buying patterns and product specific analytics in real time.
